General Dentistry
Burnsville Family Dental is pleased to offer general dentistry services for the whole family. Our dentists, hygienists, and assistants have the skills and experience to treat people at every life stage. We promote excellent oral health at any age, and general dentistry in Burnsville MN is critical to achieving that goal.
What Are General Dentistry Services?
The biannual cleaning and exam is the most basic general dentistry service that we offer. People of all ages should visit us every six months to have their teeth professionally cleaned and inspected by a dentist. A hygienist carefully removes plaque and tartar from each tooth before it turns into the bacteria responsible for causing tooth decay. The hygienist working with you also brushes, flosses, and polishes your teeth before calling your dentist into the room.
The purpose of the visual exam by one of our dentists is to look for oral health problems that could need follow-up care. Tooth decay or a tooth with a hairline crack down the center are just two common examples of when you would need to return for another appointment.
We typically take X-rays at every other appointment to form a baseline for your oral health. Children can start coming in for biannual cleaning and exam appointments after the first tooth erupts.
Dental Sealants
Since general dentistry in Burnsville MN promotes long-term oral health, our dental team may recommend sealants, fluoride treatments, or both for children at high risk of developing tooth decay. Sealants, which one of our dentists paints onto your child’s back molar teeth, protect against bacterial invasion. Sealant materials dry quickly after our dentist applies them to form a barrier. The extra protection is especially important for the molar teeth since they contain grooves and ridges that can be difficult to reach.
